Kali 2017.2 Rolling

Recommended configuration : Intel Core I5 or better / 64 Bits / 2GB Memory / 30GB Hard disk
To do the installation of Kali you have to download first the *.iso file.
ISO File (Free - Open Source) : https://www.kali.org/downloads

For USB Key creation check Rufus bootable USB Key
To create your hard disk partition check Gparted Partition creation
Default Name & Password for the live version : root / toor

Boot your USB Key or CD/DVD and select "Install".
You can also boot the system without installing it with "Live (amd64)".
The "Persistence" part allows you to make changes and not lose them after restarting.
With "Live (amd64)" everything you have done in the system will be reset when you restart.

Choose your "Language". I do the installation in English but he is possible to choose Khmer language
if you prefer. Be careful, with Khmer language some menu titles are not well understood.
It is also possible to install a second language after installation.
Choice your country location
in "Other".

Select "Asia" and "Cambodia" for the location.

Select "United States" for your local setting and "American English" for your Keyboard.

Wait few minutes for loading components.

Enter the "Computer Name" you want as "cambodia-computer" (Hostname) and select "Continue". 

Don't put anything here except if you have a "Domain Name" and select "Continue".

Put a "Password" for your "Administrator" (root) account and select "Continue".
He is important to choice a good password.
The minimum requirement is : 10 characters with 2 numbers and 2 special characters.

Select "Manual" to create your disk partition. 

Select your "Hard Disk" and "Yes" to create the partition table.
if you have already partitioned your hard disk or partitions before this installation click directly on
"Finish Partitioning and write changes to disk"

Select the free "Hard Disk Space".

Select "Create a new Partition". Choose the "Size" in gigabyte (GB).
(Minimum 20 GB for the Operating System). Select "Primary Partition".
(Logical in the case you have already three primary partition). Select "Beginning".

Select "Done setting up the partition".  

Select the free "Hard Disk Space".

Select "Create a new Partition". Choose the size in gigabyte (GB). It's your "Var" partition where you
put generally variable data or create a "Home" partition if you prefer. Select "Primary Partition".
(Logical in the case you have already three primary partition). Select "Beginning".

Select "Mount Point".

Choice "/Var" (variable data) or "/home" if you prefer.

Select "Done setting up the partition".

 Select the free "Hard Disk Space".

Select "Create a new Partition". Choose the "Size" in gigabyte (GB).
It's your "Swap" partition for memory management - 2 or 4 GB is perfect.
Select "Primary Partition" (Logical in the case you have already three primary partition). Select "Use as".

Select "Swap area".

 Select "Done setting up the partition".

Select "Finish partitioning and write changes to disk".
Select "Yes" to write the changes to the hard disk.

Wait around 10 to 30 minutes for the installation. This depends of your computer power.

Select "No" except if you have another network mirror with extra sources. 

Select "Yes" to Install the Grub Boot Loader on Hard Disk.
Select the device "/dev/sda".

Remove your installation media (USB Key or CD/DVD) and select "Continue".

Your computer will restart.

This is your new "Boot Menu". If you have already a Microsoft Windows Operating System
he will appear in this list. Select "Kali" or wait few seconds.

"Login menu". Type your "User account name - root" and your "Password".

Your Kali Linux Operating System is installed.

You have to update now the software included in the Operating System.
To locate the "Sources" of updates we need to edit the configuration file.
Open the "Terminal" and write :
"nano /etc/apt/sources.list"

Update your file with these information :
deb http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free
# For source package access, uncomment the following line
# deb-src http://http.kali.org/kali kali-rolling main contrib non-free
Click "Ctrl + X & Y" to save and exit.
 

To start the update you have to choice :
Separate command : "apt-get update" "apt-get upgrade"
Full Command with auto confirmation:  "apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y"

To see all options about "apt-get" type "apt-get --help". Many commands are possible.

"apt-get autoremove" remove all products no longer useful.
"apt-get clean" and "apt-get purge" clean the update cache.

After you finish to update your system products you have to update your Linux Operating System version :
"apt-get dist-upgrade"

 

To install a specific software type "apt-get install nano".
"Nano" is an example of a product already installed. It's a text editor.

Your Kali Linux 2017.2 is installed and fully updated.
